As Thick As Glass

June 27th, 2011 (06:20 am)

Note: This is just an idea that I'm toying with in my head right now. I've been watching so much anime recently that I suddenly feel inspired to write again. Hooda thunk?

The world in which she lived was nearly a crystal wonderland. The land was rich and nourishing, providing not only life but peace and joy to all who protected it. The animals never feared nor were they feared; they were the spirits of the earth, the caretakers of the land, and man's best friend. The people who lived here knew to respect the land and to give equally for everything that was given. In gratitude, the land in return promised bright, lively, rosy-cheeked children and spirited, good-natured elderly. It was utopia, no doubt, heaven upon Earth.

Kaoru leaned back in her chair, stretching her arms and back, feeling the cool, pleasant breeze coming in through her open window. The air rustled the pages of the books strewn across her desk, books about history and folklore. She stared at them for a brief moment before a smile lit her pretty face and she dashed out onto the porch. Her face was lifted up towards the sun, her expression one of pure bliss. 'It is a wonderful day to live,' she thought as she twirled around and hugged herself before sighing contentedly.

Her feet felt cool in the dirt as she made her way, barefoot, toward her garden. She was quite proud of the work she had accomplished there. The turnips will be sprouting soon, and the apples were ripe and heavy. Her eyelids fluttered as she inhaled, catching the scent of rosemary and sage from her herb garden. 'Perhaps I could make herb crusted salmon for dinner, with a wonderful fruit salad to start it off. Then I might bake a delicious raspberry pie!' she thought to herself as she passed the rose bushes. Her excitement, however, was extremely short-lived as her shoulders slumped forward in defeat. 'Or perhaps I could stop pretending that I can cook at all,' she thought despondently.

She gave a long sigh, pausing in her step to admire a blooming orchid.

"Help..."

Kaoru turned quickly, her eyes darting around in fear. "Who...who's there?"

"Help me...please...help..."

The distressed cry persisted, and Kaoru knew she had to find the source quickly. "Where are you?!" she cried, running further down the path, the voice growing louder as she neared it.

She suddenly stopped in her tracks, completely frozen, shocked at the aight before her. There was a man lying helpless among the lilies, his arm bent at an odd angle, his clothing torn and filthy, and most prominently, the dark blood spilling out from a hole in his chest.

Kaoru nearly fainted at the sight if it wasn't for his hoarse whisper, "Please...help...me."

This is a side account that I am creating solely for the use of hosting my drabbles and other such creative thoughts.  Here, all posts following this welcoming remark will be friend locked.  If you wish to be LJ friended by this account, please leave me a comment on either this entry or my other account, http://divio-moonshine.livejournal.com/, and I shall be glad to friend you.

Drabbles here will range from fanfiction based material to original concepts, depending on what I feel like at the time.

This account was inspired by other writers who also create separate accounts for the purpose of hosting their works.  I have no claim on originality in that aspect.  I only ask that once friended here, you will critique my work constructively.

That's all I have for now.  Thank you and have a nice day.  =)
